Why have I never taken the time to look at the “Home Tours” on Martha’s website? It’s a gold mine! Actually, it’s like an index of pure envy-all these homes, so different from each other, would be amazing to live in!
Is this not the cutest little cottage you’ve ever seen? How about those glue covered plaster walls (who would have thought they would look so elegant)? And the wood counter top inspired by a ship? Oh, and how about the crystal sculptures in the guest bath and the Biedermeier guest room? Yeah. I’m jealous too.
This New York beach cottage makes me think a couple things:
1)Why did West Elm stop making the Moroccan Windowpane rug in green????
2)This woman is anything BUT afraid of using color and I love it.
Now it’s easier to be this bold with color choices in a second home, especially one at the beach. However, it shows you that color can really make a space look “done” and, frankly, happy! The living room is simply fabulous- and how about how she painted tree stumps to use a stools?
A California Spanish bungalow done in crisp, cool white to offset the year round sun. I get a lot of questions about white couches + kids (or messy girls like myself). If you want to be washing slipcovers every couple weeks- go right ahead! Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing more I want in my living room than white couches, but I am realistic: 1) I spill. A lot. 2) Baxter and 3) I hate doing laundry. That said- this white on white house made me drool (although I would have done Carrerra marble counter tops in the kitchen).
