Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

I am a bit of a real estalker. Not only do I always look online at listings in the towns near me I want to live in, but I also like to torture myself by looking in cities I don’t live in- like the charming (and affordable) bungalows of southern cities like Atlanta and Charleston or sweet and hideously expensive cottages in California. I dream up what I could do them and then get sad that I can’t. A vicious cycle.
Recently a house went up for sale on my street and I went to the open house feigning a need to purchase and disguising the fact that I lived like 5 houses down. I saw SO MUCH potential in this home it nearly killed me! Granted, it’s expensive as is- which is why we don’t have a single family here. But oh what I could DO with this place- here’s a small taste.

Black shutters would be a must here, to dress up a very boxy exterior.

The entryway has amazing paneling and open feeling- I’d add a killer light fixture, some paint, a glamorous stair runner (Stark’s David Hick’s is an inspiration) and large piece of art.

Looking back at the front door you can see the cute set of coat hangers which lead to the entryway with great penny tile floor. Note glass french doors leading to living and dining rooms. Swoon.

the kitchen was “redone” but needs new counter tops (Carerra Marble no less). Perhaps some open shelving instead of the glass cabinets (or paint all the cabinets dark grey, like Gwyneth’s house). White subway tile, a Chilewich runner and new window treatments would follow. What you don’t see here is opposite the stove is a tall narrow wall they painted with chalkboard paint that really made me swoon and next to that a bar area, perfect for installing a wine fridge.

Adjacent to the living room is this sun room- some new tiles on the floor (Moroccan cement mosaic, perhaps) and a whimsical bamboo vintage lighting fixture is all it needs- the vintage windows left untreated and lots of cozy seating installed. A perfect reading nook.

The living room would be jazzed up with a darker paint color, long sexy drapes, the white brick fireplace stays and above it some gorgeous art.

Back Patio just needs some nice lounge chairs and dinging set for cocktail parties.

The dining room is large and open- needing dramatic wallpaper, long drapes, a dramatic light fixture and long dining table and chairs.

The upstairs has lots of charm too (like a glass french doored office!), but there aren’t good pics. The bathrooms need some updating but are fully unoffensive as is. Master bath would need expansion- but there is a full size washer and dryer in the master closet!

Anyone want to move in and let me redo it and be best friends? :)
