Inspired by Coco Before Chanel

coco_before_chanel08

Last night I finally watched Coco Before Chanel and was mad for the set design, the story, the fashion…EVERYTHING. One of the scenes I loved so much was when Coco arrived at the  manor and was totally transfixed by her room, in particular the elegant bathroom.  So I wanted to create a bathroom using that moment as inspiration!  Romantic  floral wallpaper, gilded fixtures, vintage style sink and tub and a kick of modern design with a lacquered mirror and glossy black wall trim.  And of course, an homage to her fabulous Bateau striped tee with a  shower curtain made of striped fabric! See this film if you have not!

  1. Love this post, Love. I adored that movie. After I saw it I made a deal with my husband that when I learn enough French to not raise the eyebrow of my parisian friend Sondra, he will take me back to Paris. I loved all the style elements of the movie, but mostly I was inspired by Coco’s attitude. A gal after my own heart. The bathroom you pulled together is fantastic. I’ll be calling on your services when I get that mansion hillside in Provence ;)

  2. erin! i just watched this movie tuesday night! just loved the moment when she is in deauville and sees the fisherman wearing the striped T..and loved that every time she was asked to leave the manor she sniffed and said “no i believe i will NOT be going”. now that’s cohones. the bathroom concept is so fun, wasn’t that tub just killer?

  3. love the tub! this winter in italy one of my favorite stylists wrote a bio of coco and i’ve been hooked ever since! i must see this film!

  4. They knew what they were doing when they made that movie, it is made to drive fashion hunters crazy. They put so much detail and care into every set piece, shot and costume. It’s a beautiful film. I guess when you’re dealing with Chanel you have to make it that way.

  5. Such a fabulous post–I have yet to watch that movie and now I want to rent it right away just to see the interiors! Love your blog :) xx

  6. Long time reader, but my first comment. Love Coco. It was a nice surprise to read your inspiration from the movie and love for its sets. It was a nice follow up to reading about Coco and the movie on Simply Seleta the day before. I love her too as you undoubtedly must as well!
