Margot Love.

I’ve said it before, but one of my favorite movies of all time is The Royal Tenenbaums. I can watch it over and over and never get sick of it.  Not only for it’s dry, witty humor but also the incredible style and sets! I particularly am enamored with Margot, played by the pitch perfect Gwyneth Paltrow- her straight faced delivery, edgy look and quirky style clearly hiding a sea of emotion underneath. So this Halloween the plan is to be her alongside my friend Matt who will be my Richie. All I need is a blonde bob wig, striped polo dress, fur coat, faux Hermes bag, smokey eyeliner and wooden finger. :)  I am not alone in my Margot adoration, specifically according to Etsy!

I am bummed I waited too long to order one of these Margot striped polo dresses– now sold out for Halloween! :(

How fantastic is this Margot paper doll print from Etsy? I may need one.

Or this set of silhouettes of Margot and Richie??? I die, so cute!

Now let’s see if I can get my act together in time….

  1. I love the movie too! when I was 9, on a whim, I auditioned to play margot as a child in the movie. For some reason they posted audition signs in my new york city private school and my friends convinced me I HAD to try out, despite the fact that I don’t have an acting bone in my body. I went with my mom and sat in a room filled with a bunch of other blonde girls with their hair parted down the middle (still my signature). Eventually I was called in and read some lines for a table full of grown ups. Sadly, my brush with fame ended there, I never got a call back. I still love the move though. Can’t wait to see your costume. I’m thinking of doing Gaga but haven’t fully committed.

  2. LOVE that movie. Genius costume idea too…I would kind of want to dress like Margot all the time! She is fab. My fiancee was Richie a few years ago and it was seriously one of the best costumes ever…the wig, the headband, the sport coat, the tennis racket…hysterical. You must post pics!

  3. I was Margot for Halloween my freshman year of college! The only thing I was missing was the wooden finger. Alas. But, otherwise, I was spot on!!! (or so I like to think)

  4. My husband and I dressed up like this the year after the movie came out. I bought a great fur coat on ebay if you want to borrow it (since I feel like I know you from your blog even though this is my first comment…which I can’t believe is about this and not design!) and I have a great tip (no pun intended) for the wooden finger. :)

  5. I have never posted a comment before but felt compelled to after reading this – Margot is hands down the most fabulous movie character of all times – great post!!!
