Hermes Love

Did you guys see the little pic of Jonathan Adler’s bathroom in this month’s House Beautiful? It was seriously under 2″ square but it jumped out at me more than some of the full page photos because of that INSANE vintage Hermes metal sign on the wall! Say WHAT?!?!? Here’s a bigger pic of it I found on Pinterest- how have I never seen this before?

Three things- 1) I need the back story on how he got that 2) if it were mine I would hang that bad boy somewhere other than the bathroom- perhaps around my neck so no one would miss seeing it EVER. I’d be like the Favor Flav of designers 3) how about the rest of that bathroom?? The brass pipes, black ceiling, subway tile? I can’t even….

But seriously, I’ve never seen anything like that sign before. There’s a lot of Hermes out there for the home that is used ad-nauseum – empty orange boxes, THE tray and THE blanket (is there another? I think not).  Not that I am complaining about ANY of those things, I love them all equally and even have some in play in my own home…

So here’s the thing with Hermes trays, especially the one we all love seen below… most are fakes. EXPENSIVE fakes. Even sold at reputable stores- a real vintage one would set you back thousands, but a replica will be a cool $600 or so. Just something interesting I learned…

As a side note, if someone asked me what I would do if I won the lottery I would just show them this picture (and explain that they cut out the two store employees carrying out two other loads this size to me car)

  1. I can’t stop staring at the bathroom, it is seriously fit for a king. So many amazing elements, but yes that Hermes is beyond perfection! Ha, I would love to see you rock it as a necklace!

  2. Ooooh, and I LUV the heels she (you?) is wearing…carrying the Hermes to the car…franki

  3. Here’s when I knew the Hermes blanket and the empty boxes jumped the design shark; when Rachel Zoe used “bananas” as an adjective in describing baby Skylers crib adorned with Hermes baby blanket and cushion during the ABC News tour of Skylers terrifyingly ostentacious nursery.

But ever the optimist the whole Hermes accessories craze has likely opened up many an eye to how chic orange can be in the home.

  4. I love orange and brass together!!

Aside: Wouldn’t a replica Hermes tray be infringing the Hermes trademark? A reputable store who sold such a thing could get in hot water.

  5. ok such good info – didnt know that most were fakes. i was trolling through some beach boutiques last summer and almost shelled out a couple hundred for a light blue one i found … def a fake… but i was thinking it was soo cool because it WASNT orange. thank you ms. gates!

  6. OMG! Haven’t looked at my magazine yet, but that bathroom is amazing! You’re right….that Hermes piece should be somewhere else, but it’s probably the coolest thing I’ve ever seen!

  7. well said, erin. well said. i would do the same thing with my winnings. let’s split a ticket next time!!

  8. 1st Dibs have the metal signs every once in awhile, you have to look for them though, and they are not cheap!

  9. I’m guessing the first round tray is the real deal considering it’s in Olivia Palermo’s NYC apartment! Much love and MUCH jealousy! ;o)

  10. You never got back to me about that Hermes blanket I have for 1/2 price… if you want it PLEASE email me! I’d hate for you to lose it if you want it!

  11. My friend Heather and I were lucky enough to go to an event at Jonathan and Simon’s apartment last year. Somewhere, I have a picture of Heather sitting in that bathroom. The whole place is beautiful, warm and a little crazy. You are greeted in the entry by a huge framed photo of a random toddler beauty queen. When I asked about it, Simon said they loved it, mostly because she was missing one of her fake, long red finger nails.

  12. Wow, that logo! I would just go ahead and glue it to my front door. :) Seriously though, is that a brass table in his shower?! Very cool.

  13. ha! you crack me up!
I’ve been on such a Hermes lust kick lately- sometimes I seriously ponder changing my name to have an H in it just so I could justify buying the blanket/ bracelet.

  14. I would LOVE to have an Hermes tray…LOVE! That last picture you have of the tray is my current screen background on my laptop. :)

  15. maybe the brass Hermes logo is a fake too? that’s why he has it in the bathroom. haha.
