Fashion Friday: A Cold New York Night Out

Last night Andrew and I were in New York for a fun event and with the weather dropping into the single digits figuring out what to wear was tough. I decided that wearing a dress would just be too cold so I opted for a menswear look inspired based on this amazing Veronica Beard blazer. I have always loved a white and black tux jacket, and after owning an affordable version (J.Lo for Kohls, for real) I decided to pony up and get a perfectly tailored one. I was loving the jacket with jeans but was worried it was a smidge too casual…

tuxedo jacket // heels // jeans (these are awesome) // clutch // earrings (old, similar here)

So I decided that leather leggings were more appropriate for this event, and so I popped on my most favorite (and only) pair from Helmut Lang.  These pants are so expensive, but they were worth every penny. I wear them ALL winter long, and have for the past three years- and they still haven’t stretched out beyond belief! The cost per wear on these, the most expensive pants I own, is less than many of my J.Crew pairs I have worn twice. It was a lesson to myself about spending well once instead of stupidly two or three times on trendier stuff. I loved this sleek, comfortable and warm look. The sparkly chandeliers and high pumps adding a dash of feminine and the clutch adding a pop of pattern. Sorry for the bad picture, I gotta up my game.

Pretty tablescape at the RewardStyle Top 25 dinner at Public (which was really delicious and a gorgeous space!)

We stayed at The Marlton Hotel, which I’ve blogged about before and LOVED.

The rooms are so tiny, but SO perfect.

Again, tiny bathroom, but so perfectly outfitted with brass Waterworks fixtures and marble.  And the bathtub was HUGE!

Every detail is perfect, right down to the pad of note paper.

A little bit of Paris in New York.

I love these sconces, reminds me of the new Nickey Kehoe for Urban Electric hand sconces.

Happy weekend, and to my fellow Bostonians- hang in there with  this mind-blowingly awful storm system heading our way! And happy Valentines Day!

  1. of course your outfit matches the bathroom of The Marlton … of course it does.

congrats on Top 25 & happy Vday to you and Andrew!

  2. The CoH Racer jean is the only pair of denim I will buy anymore! It is the absolute friggin best. Fits my short torso-d body perfectly. So flattering, doesn’t stretch out. I could go on for days. But I won’t. You look fabulous, Erin, as usual.

  3. I’d like to slip into your life to relive that night… it looks incredible! And my goodness, you’re selling those leather leggings. Every time you post about them I start thinking about making an investment myself. I live in skinny black pants and a leather pair would be on a whole new level.

  4. Your outfit reminds me of Anna Kendrick’s killer tuxedo at the Grammys. Anna totally rocked the look and so do you!

  5. I’m going to will myself to grow about 7″ then come beg you to let me raid your closet. That outfit is fantastic!

    Congrats on top 25!

  6. Erin, I really enjoy seeing you pull together your real-life outfits. It’s always interesting and gives me motivation to pull it together. PLEASE continue to do more posts like this one. P.S. LOVE the tux jacket, so sexy. Never in a million years did I want one, but now I’m considering it.

  7. Amazing outfit. (and good advice /analysis about splurging on good quality vs. spending less and buying more often).

  8. You looked so beautiful! And I’m daydreaming about putting those Waterworks fixtures in my bathroom… sigh…

  9. I love your outfit, you look beautiful! I do have an unrelated post request. I recently got your book and it has inspired me to refresh my entryway. I’ve looked all over for a row of hooks to hang in our small space and can’t find anything that isn’t ultra modern or look like it should be hanging in an office, dorm or garage. I would love a post on some stylish ideas for coat hooks.

  10. De toute beauté, Erin! You are such an inspiration; brains, beauty, funny and gorgeous! Happy V-day to you and Andrew xox

  11. You look fantastic and I’m definitely going to have to steal this look in the future! Also, that hotel looks adorable. Definitely noting it down for the future.

  12. Quick leather pants question: Are thy worth it?? Didn’t they stretch out? Is your leather love back on?

That’s a big ole chunk of change but, like you said…price per wear!
