I Need Some Color.

All of the sudden winter has turned to summer and I am CRAVING adding some color to my house.  Like, desperate for it.  I was all happy with my monochromatic palette and for some reason I feel the need to add bold pops of blue or coral or pink to it. I still would keep the basics neutral, advice I give any client who changes their mind as often as I do, but I think I’ll get busy changing things up in my living room (finally) and guest room.  And this month’s House Beautiful only encouraged me further with it’s great collection of homes that use bold color in genius ways.

The gorgeous New Orleans home of Jane Scott Hodges, owner of Leontine Linens (the dream bedding of everyone) is a mix of classic traditional style and modern punches of color.

And check out her amazing chartreuse skirt! Love.

Krista Ewart’s home in Los Angeles is a laid back but polished space with lots of bold color choices. Loving those pink chairs!

And ANOTHER amazing chartreuse skirt, just tea length!!! Me thinks this may be a spring trend. :)

Here are some fun brightly colored items and new things I’ve found that are inspiring me to add some more color to my home!

  1. Second photo: bench at foot of bed would drive me crazy. Either photo angle or poor upholstery job.

I first saw the taffeta chartreuse skirt on Jillian Harris a month or so ago.

Love you, Erin and the boook!

  2. I’m currently coveting yellow! I too, tend to design in fifty shades of white in my own home. I’d love to add some yellow leather Louis XVI chairs to my dining room but will probably settle for color by way of flowers and artwork!

  3. The New Orleans home of JSD is a dream, especially the art that hang on the walls. The works are by local artists, such as Amanda Talley and Alex Beard. As an alum of Tulane University (Newcomb College), I will forever have a place in my heart for N.O. art and architecture.

  4. Is it an East coast / West coast thing to say “All of THE sudden” instead of “All of A sudden”?? Either way, gorgeous photos today :-)

    1. So funny you mentioned that Kelie, because as a lifelong West Coaster I was wondering the same thing :) Maybe it’s like sneakers vs tennis shoes (East & West coast terms, respectively :) ).

      1. Lifelong easterner and have always said “all of a sudden”. Could be a New England thing to use “the” instead. I googled it and found no rule as to correctness although “all of a sudden” is in far more usage.

  5. Item number 8 on that list you shared Erin is giving me life…Why do I live in the United Kingdom?!?

  6. As a fellow lifelong Easterner, “all of the sudden” didn’t even catch my attention. I know I’ve used it. Guess they both work.
