Fashion Friday: The Staple Piece

I’ve come to feel the the staple piece for spring, summer AND fall is going to be the sleeveless trench or blazer.  It’s such a versatile topper that can dress up or dress down any outfit AND hide a multitude of sins!  I think it’s perfect for me while I get bigger and bigger and may want to feel a little more layered and covered up.  Here’s some inspiration on how to style this piece with pants, skirts and even dresses!

Here’s a way to wear this now, while it’s warm, with some classic denim cutoffs:

vest // shorts // tank // sandals // earrings // sunglasses // clutch

For pregnant ladies like me, I’d wear this with my favorite maternity jeans I’ve found so far from H&M and a nice long, comfy tank like this one from Isabella Oliver.

A great selection of sleeveless trenches and jackets:

And a little P.S. for those who inquired about this top on Instagram (when cropped looked like a dress). It’s from Nordstrom and is technically maternity I think, but would work on anyone. My jeans are AG Maternity.

  1. No thanks re the sleeveless trench. Take away the 90 pound models with the requisite pigeon toe stance and the red lipstick and all I see is a frumpy boxy jacket-that’s-not a jacket. Reminds me of something from Joyce Leslie I might’ve rocked back in 7th grade.
You look great, however’. Hope you continue to have a great pregnancy- it’s a really lovely time of life and goes quickly!

  2. Whoah, you look smashing! That green wrap top is crazy good on you. Love this photo of the proud mama and papa to be.

  3. I do love this but the 100 degree temps here in NC make anything more than a tank top or linen dress impossible. Definitely something for the fall! Thanks, Erin!

  4. You look great – totally glowing and healthy!

But just no to the trench vest. So 90s. All it needs is a print baby doll dress and a choker and we’re right back to college graduation.

    1. Love love the trench vest idea! So very versatile. I’m waaay past baby bump age but I think this is a rockin’ look. Congratulations to you both!
