I’ll be honest, I did not watch a minute of the Emmy’s- I’ve taken to sleeping (or trying to) a lot in the third trimester. But I did watch the Red Carpet- which really did help lull me to sleep. Oh man, SUPER boring, am I right?? I don;t even have a clear best dressed winner- plenty of people looked prefectly pretty, but no one person made me sit up and go “Ooooohh, I LOVE that!!!”
As far as “favorites” I think my favorites were Aubrey Plaza and Sarah Hyland. Aubrey’s dress draped SO beautifully (I would have done a bolder earring I think) and Sarah Hyland’s dress was pretty from the front, but really stunning from the back.
I also loved all the ladies in simple black dresses- not the most earth shattering thing ever, but still gorgeous. Julia Louis Dreyful always kills it and Julie Bowen’s funky top and awesome accessories keep her look from getting dull.
And how about Lady Gaga shocking all of us by looking, well, like a LADY! I never thought I’d have her in the “best” category!
I actually thought this was an interesting, cool look by Miu Miu on…. (wait, I don’t know who she is!)
Viola Davis’ dress was simple and gorgeous on her- I loved the pattern placement and the fit.
Hot pink was super popular choice- Christine Baranski (looooooove her) looked amazing. I love the one shouldered drape of the Samira’s gown too.
Jessica Pare looked pretty, but of the pink dresses it wasn’t my most favorite. Uzo Aduba’s navy and pink dress with splatter detail was feminine and funky.
The tale of two pale looks- Emma Roberts’ whole look was so elegant, but this color on blondes- I don’t get it- I think it washes them right out! Tatiana Masley looks great in her pale tuxedo, but the pants had a very odd fit- kind of Talbots circa 1992. I wish they either had been fitted, cigarette style and ankle length or long and more trouser style.
The Downtown girls looked good, and vastly different from their onscreen personas. Laura Carmichael had kind of a sexy Little House on the Prairie thing happening, but it was working for me with the hair and makeup.
Two sexy ladies in metallic dresses- perfectly lovely, but nothing especially exciting for me. I do like that Christina Hendricks mixed it up a little bit with this studded sleeved number.
Two in teal- Laverne Cox’s simple dress fit perfectly and looked fabulous. Amy Schumer’s looked too small in the bust and I kept waiting for a wardrobe malfunction.
Chain details were seen on both Claire Danes and Taraji P. Henson- both only okay. Claire’s dress looked too low in the front for her tiny bust and her hair looked too severe and 1930’s for the dress. On the other hand, Taraji’s hair was killer, but the sheer skirt ruined it for me. I am so over this whole sheer skirt thing!
Was anyone else like “who the hell is William H. Macy cozying up to? Where’s his wife??” Felicity Huffman is unrecognizable as a brunette! The dress is very pretty though!
So SO psyched Veep won (hilarious show, a total fave) but Anna Chlumsky’s look was only so-so for me. Again, this color washes her out, and the hair looks a little like how I did mine for prom in 1997. Also, the dress is a bit busy. Tony Hale, on the other hand, killed it in a navy tux. I am ALL about the navy tux right now! Plus he is HILARIOUS and deserving of his win!
I was on the fence about these bright ballgowns. I think I like Maggie’s more than Elizabeth’s but both are missing something for me. Too plain?
The Most Improved award has to go to Amanda Peet. Usually girlfriend look like a HOT MESS, but she must have gotten a new stylist. I don’t LOVE the dress, but I don’t hate it either and compared to whats he’s worn to awards shows of the past, this is a home run.
I wasn’t totally feeling Kerry’s dress either- parts of it I liked (the skirt and heels), but the shoulders, sleeves and back I did not.
My two favorite funny ladies, but not my favorite looks on them. Amy Pohler looks a little messy and like she’s trying a little too hard. I don’t see her as a “torso cut outs” kinda gal. And I almost like Tina’s tux-inspired gown but something about the front was too bib-like for me.
I hated this technicolor Armani on Jamie Alexander. It felt like too much, and the wet hair thing didn’t do it for me either.
I liked the concept behind Kiernan’s two piece ensemble but the slightly loose pants under the dress-like top looked awkward in my opinion.
Heidi is a bombshell but this dress was too “Sexy Big Bird” for me. And again, with the damn sheer skirt! Are those yellow platform heels?? You are a SUPERMODEL, you don;t need to wear stripper shoes dyed to match your gown. Eeekksss!
Another funny lady, but this one in a funny dress. Sorry Kathryn Hahn, whoever put you in this should get a time out today. I will never understand choices like this- of ALL the dresses in ALL the world you have access to- THIS. Blows the mind.
