Blue + Orange = Happy

I saw this picture from Luella & June on Pinterest and it made me lust for spring (here in New England we’ve had a brutal and abrupt return to winter making us all cranky!)  What I love about this is the color combination of orange and blue- a pairing that is fresh, spring-like and one we use often.

Nothing pairs better with blue and white china than oranges and fresh greens!!!

It’s the best color combo for little boy bedrooms!

You’ll find a lot of orange and blue mixed in vintage Heriz rugs.

  1. Love this! I’m a lover of blue willow china (and am one of your readers always urging you to show us new ways to set a table with it) so you know this got pinned! I even have a pinterest board dedicated just to blue and white.

    And the orange just made me feel happy.

  2. Ohhhhh, would LOVE a post on how to re-create that blue and orange table for the summer. We can hope for summer, right?

    1. Warm weather is coming! I’m on the west coast and there is a warm weather pattern (we had high 70s – and we are muc further north than SoCal) that just passed us on its way to the mid west. I’ll keep my fingers crossed it makes it to you!

  3. Can you probide sourcing info on that walpaper? I don’t think I can continue on without it.

  4. Three primary colors:
    Red..complimentary= green
    Yellow.. ” =purple
    Blue.. “. =orange
    Because they “complement” each other when placed side by side! It’s the main idea in my head whenever I begin a new painting. You design people know it and use it well too!

  5. Persimmon too! I’ve seen your pages and others blend with teal, navy, as well as shades in between. Love it!

  6. How lovely it would be to be sitting at that beautifully set table. (or sipping a cocktail in that pool)

  7. Funny, the day before you posted this I wore a blue and orange combo to work. I was really struggling with putting my outfit together, and that color combo popped in my head. Once it was there my creativity just took off, and I think that outfit was one of my favorite for the week!

  8. Fabulous, wonderful post, Erin! Thank you for bringing us inspiration every day. Blue and white is always a favorite and I do not know why I had not thought of orange with it before. Orange is, so happy! I guess as a redhead I shied away from this color when I was younger, but now we embrace color so much more than in the minimalist 90’s! I am obsessed with the outfit, the place setting, and the bedroom (minus the dogs on the bed — sorry!) And I just ordered that gorgeous giclee print. Thanks for sharing! xoxo

  9. Erin, you are such a courageous young women. Your willingness to open your heart and share life’s struggles has I’m sure been rewarding to others who have the same issues. I’ve been following you for several years and look forward to your wonder design and words of wisdom. This post made me smile from start to finish, such warm and happy colors bring a ray of brightness to my Midwestern cold afternoon.
