This week’s Product Junkie is a pro- makeup artist Jeannie Vincent who not only beautifies everyone from local models and the band Train for their recent VH-1 performance but also works for Fresh and is the beauty editor for the super cool fashion blog New Brahmin. Let’s just say, she knows her shiz.
When I say my life would not be the same without this product, I am really not exaggerating. Call me crazy, but I am an at-home manicure aficionado, and I truly can’t imagine painting my nails with any regular old topcoat. I am hooked on Poshe’ Super-Fast Drying formula; I’m a junkie. If you do paint your nails yourself, and haven’t tried a fast-drying topcoat, ladies–you ain’t livin’. Isn’t it annoying to have to sit like a statue for half an hour so as to not smudge your newly manicured tips? And even then end up eventually nicking them on something even though you thought they were dry? Enter the quick-drying stuff. Apply your base coat and color as usual, and then immediately after (no need to wait), brush on a coat of the Poshe Super-Fast. Ten minutes later and you are good to go. Your polish will be dry to the touch, and within a half an hour all layers should be completely dry. There are other fast-drying topcoats out there, a very popular one being Seche Vite. But with Seche Vite you get shrinkage (ew, sounds gross), a phenomenon where your nail polish actually “shrinks” on your nail, thus making your manicure look more worn, more quickly. You can find Poshe at any Sally’s, CVS, or even Amazon. I like to order it in bulk from nail supply e-tailers, but then again, I am a nail junkie. Regardless of where you go to get it, pick it up, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
Jessica Sutton is a fabulous graphic designer and blogger who happens to occupy the studio next to mine (and threw down the most amazing dance off ever at my birthday party against a man in zebra pants). Here is her fresh faced submission for Product Junkies:
Ok so my CAN’TPOSSIBLYEVERLIVEWITHOUTPRODUCT is Fresh’s Soy Face Cleanser. It literally removes every bit of makeup from mascara to glitter (don’t ask how I know this) to hungover, day old, liquid eyeliner… The best part is that it’s super gentle and never irritates your eyes (seriously, never). It also hydrates, tones, and has a very subtle cucumber scent which I find uber refreshing. I love it so much that I, no-joke, have 4 backup bottles on hand at all times! One time, I forgot to pick up a travel size before a trip and actually checked luggage just so that I could bring it with me… I guess you could say I’m insane over it :)
I’ve had so many companies offer me stuff to give away to you lately it’s amazing! I only pick the things I really love and know you will too so I hope you find it exciting! This newest giveaway is from Perricone M.D., the oft lauded skin care product company that makes lotions, potions creams and even supplements and anti-oxidant loaded snacks (99 Bite Bars) all aimed at helping you look younger. Since entering my 30’s I have been in search of a great night cream to help replenish my skin while I sleep- I can no longer go to bed with makeup on and no cream and wake up looking refreshed! Perricone’s Cold Plasma cream is a high tech new product that claims to heal what ails me. Dr. Perricone even wrote a book detailing his scientific discovery and findings behind Cold Plasma called Forever Young (if you pre-order it on Amazon you get a free jar of Concentrated Restorative Treatment worth $75!) Why don’t we both try it out? I’m giving a jar of it away (worth $150)- so leave a comment about why you want and need this miracle worker and I’ll announce the winner next Monday! In the meantime, you can get free samples online (you just have to pay $4.95 in shipping)
Here we have the favorite product of the fantastic Paloma Contreras of La Dolce Vita!
When Erin first asked me to participate in her fun, new “Product Junkies” series, my mind was spinning. How would I ever narrow my selection down to just one product? There are so many products that I love and use regularly: skin care products, hair products, and of course, make-up. The more I thought about it, I knew that I wanted to share a product with the readers of Elements of Style that would truly knock your socks off; something with nearly immediate, impressive results. With most products, you might notice a difference over the course of a few weeks, but that definitely is not the case with Mario Badescu’s Drying Lotion.
I am very fortunate in that I have what the skin care people refer to as “normal” skin. It’s neither dry nor oily and my main complaint are the dark circles that I inherited from my mom’s side of the family. Aside from that, my skin situation is pretty copacetic. However, every now and again I’ll get a dreaded pimple, but I no longer stress about them or nurse them for a week until they go away. Anytime I feel a blemish coming on, I turn to my Badescu Drying Lotion. I always apply it at night, after washing and moisturizing my face. It is a solution made up of a dense, pink liquid on the bottom and a clear liquid on the top. The instructions say not to shake it, so you just dip a cotton swab into the bottle, dab it on your blemish, and by morning it’s either gone or much improved!
Over the past, I dunno, 28 years I’ve been a total beauty product addict. It’s documented in my baby book on my third Christmas where my mom wrote in “She asked for a makeup kit??” Since then I’ve ditched the Wet-n-Wild teal eyeliner and have been lapping up recommendations from magazines left and right only to be let down quite a bit of the time when the promise of airbrushed skin/the perfect faux tan/inner “glow” fail to actually be reproduced in my bathroom mirror. I much prefer to spend my hard earned money on products that my friends and industry pros I know tout as being genius. So I thought “why not make it a blog series?” Starting this week I’ll be hittin’ you with the absolute must have items of people I trust as beauty advisors and inspirations!
I figured it would be best to kick it off with my own can’t live without it product. Ok, I cheated, I have three. But I’m the boss lady so I say it’s ok. I am not typically a creature of habit when it comes to makeup and skincare because I always want to try the newest, greatest thing. Except for these three things that I ALWAYS purchase. My skin in nothing to write home about, so I do use foundation and concealer liberally. However, I hate really thick foundation as well as super sheer “this is basically expensive lotion” tinted moisturizers. So finding a balance was tough, but man how I love my Chanel Teint Innocence Foundation. Totally perfect coverage that looks natural but attempts to hide the damage I did when lathering on tanning oil while a lifeguard as a teen. I’ve bought other fancy ones that magazine always claim are “the best” only to return them a re-purchase this one. Plus, it’s the only Chanel item I can afford and I would be lying if I said the black box with the logo doesn’t thrill me a little. Pairing that with the inimitable Cle de Peau concealer and YSL’s Touche Eclat (both worth every penny- imitators don’t come close) creates the closest thing to good lookin’ skin for me (I will NOT say flawless, because I hate it when mags claim that. No one is flawless). Seeing as I turn THIRTY FREAKING ONE in three weeks, I need all the help I can get!
I’m going to survey a wide swath of people- from other interior designers to fashionistas to makeup artists and stylists. Up next week, the must have product from my new hair guru Jeffrey Lyle!
