I saw this room on Instagram last night (designed by Allison Elebash) and found the palette of medium/ light blue and blush to be really unexpected in a family space. I would typically think of these tones as too sweet and baby-ish to pair together in an adult space, but it TOTALLY works and looks fresh and interesting! The painting by Sally King Benedict certainly adds some grown up funkiness, and the woven textures of the sofa ground everything.
Mark Sikes is a decorator’s decorator. I would hire him in a minute to do my own house without question and let him just go to town. I imagine we’d have a Chip-and Joanna reveal and I would cry and hug him and all would be right in the world.
Anyways, he’s a genius with impeccable taste. Case in point, his bedroom in the Kips Bay Decorator’s Showhouse. I. AM. OBSESSED.
My jaw fell open yesterday when spotting this spread in August’s Vogue on Marina Rust’s Charlottesville, Virginia home. Talk about a classic, stunning country house. I want to see MORE, but alas there were only a few images.
I’m back! A week off from blogging was just what I needed to get excited about sharing some cool stuff with you guys the rest of the summer. We had an overwhelming, but nice, trip to Maine and some QT with Henry which was wonderful. He’s growing faster than I can even fathom and so time away from work is crucial for me as a mom. But MAN does it feel great to be back at work! :) I have a new accessory collection launching this week, a re-branding effort underway and a new renovation project starting at my house in August- so lots and lots going on!
To kick off the week I wanted to share with you this incredible project done by fellow Boston designer, and friend, Jill Goldberg (who owns Hudson in the South End, Boston’s best home store in my opinion!) She was chosen to do this renovation project in conjunction with This Old House in Arlington, MA and I absolutely LOVE it and have not seen much of it on the ol’ interwebs so I thought it would be fun to share as well as some insight from Jill on the design! The clients wanted a very serene, California vibe that took cues from the style and age of the old home, and I certainly feel it was a very successful result!
This picture had me at hello- from the modern bubble chandelier by Oly (I found a more affordable one- see bottom of post) to the oak cabinetry, wall paneling, William Morris paper, modern slipcovered chairs and sculptural table….it’s an A+++ in my book (and also one of Jill’s favorite rooms for it’s timeless yet modern feel).
The most awesome spread in the current House Beautiful had to be the cover story- not only for it’s decor (by Hannon Douglas) but the story behind the space. This feminine beauty is not a full time residence, but rather a getaway for the mother of four whose main home is down the street. Used as a space for her to get some alone time, drink wine with friends and hold small gatherings (as well as being a guest space for visitors) I think this has to be the most amazing luxury I’ve heard of as of late. Can you imagine having a separate space from your family to just GET. AWAY. ?? Not to mention one that looks like THIS? I dunno, if it were me I might pick some extra fights with my husband just to “take a time out”. :)
I am pretty sure her kitchen uses my bathroom floor tile as the backsplash! And how about those vintage doors?
